Mute Swimmer

Cracked hymns to love, doubt and time’

Mute Swimmer is the musical project of Berlin based British artist Guy Dale. Through numerous releases and a changing cast of collaborators and players Dale has been  shooting his fascination with the traditional lyrical song through art performance, post rock,  ambient drone, folk and spoken word.

He has described the project as an act of benign sabotage – often taking the process of  writing and moment of performance itself as a narrative subject. As such his songs uniquely  operate in the real time of performance – addressed directly to the listener in the present  tense. Romantic, ironic and hauntingly melancholic by rapid turns he has earned a  reputation for his compelling, idiosyncratic performances.

Mute Swimmer has released music on Dendron, Truco Espárrago, Woodland and Bleeding Heart Recordings. His work has been featured on BBC 6 Music (UK), Byte FM (DE), Radio Tres (ESP) among manyothers.http://muteswimmer.bandcamp.com/

He is a Yamaha Jazz Scholar, Peter Whittingham Award winner and has performed at numerous prominent locations across the UK, Germany, Denmark, France, Italy, Iceland, Finland, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Poland, Switzerland and the Netherlands, including for BBC national radio. Mark works as a leader and side-person in diverse artistic projects internationally, notably Bright Dark, Book of Haikus, a freely improvised solo project, his large ensemble A Moveable Feast, Hayden Prosser’s Tether, Constantly Moving Happiness Machines and myriad collaborative settings Europe-wide. He has also performed classical works such as Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time. As well as appearing regularly in his adopted home of Berlin with his exceptional peers, he has shared stages with prominent artists like Wanja Slavin, Sebastian Gille, Jonas Burgwinkel, Greg Cohen, Percy Pursglove, Liz Kosack, Oli Steidle, Antonio Borghini, Uli Kempendorff, Óskar Guðjónsson, Andi Haberl, Emanuele Maniscalco, Ole Mofjell, Jasper Stadhouders and Magnús Trygvason Eliassen. Upon completing bachelors studies in Birmingham he was awarded the Jazz Department Performance Prize, the Dean’s Award for exceptional achievement and the Principal’s Prize for outstanding contribution to the life of the Conservatoire.

Later he became interested in the double bass and started his pre-studies at the HfK Bremen with Prof. Detlev Beier at the age of 16. Since 2014, Felix is studying at the Jazz-Institut Berlin with Prof. Greg Cohen and Marc Muellbauer. Other mentors have been, Robert Landfermann, Jim Black and Drew Gress. He performed in Germany, France, Island, Belgium, Poland, Ukraine, China, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Lithuania and the UK. Despite his young age, Felix has played with national and international renowned musicians such as: Nate Wooley, Toby Delius, Eric Mcpherson, Marc Copland, Jochen Rueckert, Lotte Anker, Andrea Parkins, Achim Kaufmann, Philipp Gropper’s Philm, Oli Steidle, Jim Black, Pablo Held, Gebhard Ullmann, Wanja Slavin, Peter Schlamb and many others.

He has been living in Berlin since 2010 where he studied at the Jazz Institut Berlin under the guidance of John Hollenbeck, Greg Cohen, Kurt Rosenwinkel and David Friedman, graduating in 2016. He has played with Rossano Emili, Perugia Jazz Orchestra, Pietro Tonolo, Joe Chambers, Alessandro Lanzoni, Elias Stemeseder, Marcin Masecki, Tarek Yamani and many others.

Chaos in Ulan Bator

Magnus Schriefl – trumpet, piccolo trumpet, composition
Sebastian Böhlen – guitar, composition
Christian Müller – double bass, composition
John Schröder – drums, composition

CHAOS IN ULAN BATOR
A lonely tree walks the empty streets of Ulan Bator. It’s cold and dark. Suddenly a donkey comes along – they stare at each other for a long time.
„It is what it is,“ says the tree, “I’ve seen it all, and that never really changes.“
The donkey: „Seriously?“
The tree: „Of course not. But some things I don’t wanna describe any further – the ocean in a swimming pool.”
The donkey: „We gotta work with what we have.“
The tree: „Yeah, I guess so. If there is any hope left at all it would come out of their curiosity, and there is only one way to address that.”
The donkey: „But how?“
Chaos! In Ulan Bator?! Yes, Chaos is everywhere. A complete mess, things are getting mixed up, loosing their meaning but getting a new one instead, une mélange extraordinaire. And that is only one of many reasons why we are having a very good time playing music together. Curious? Start reading again from the top, or even better, come to our concert.

The Consistency of Destruction

Pascal Klewer – Trompete
Leif Berger – Drums
Felix Hauptmann -Piano/Synth/prepared piano
Roger Kintopf – Bass
Florian Herzog – Bass

“The Consistency of Destruction” arbeitet und forscht an Strukturen, Polyrhythmik, Dichte und Klang.

ENG:
“The Consistency of Destruction” researches structures, polyrhythms, density and sound(s) in their works. The music of the cologne-based band, consisting of the two bassists Roger Kintopf and Florian Herzog, the drummer Leif Berger, the pianist Felix Hauptmann and trumpeter Pascal Klewer, is situated between avantgarde, improvised music and contemporary music. The intensely rehearsed tunes, templates, patterns and concepts are continuously researched, destroyed, questioned and reattached.
The band is releasing 3 EP´s in 2021 and is recording their debut album in October of 2021, including a weeklong livestream session.

Plague Fun: Corona Rules

Case numbers are low, but the bug’s still around so we will be taking many measures to make sure we’re all doing our part to end the pandemic once and for all.

Since September 18th we implement the so called 2G-rule at Donau115. This means only people with full vaccination or recovered people can come inside (2G = geimpft/genesen = vaccinated/recovered).

1: OUTSIDE: contact tracing – To join us outside, you must provide contact tracing information. We will keep this information safe for the required amount of time and destroy it with fire once that time has ellapsed.

2: INSIDE: vaccinated or recovered (a test is not enough) – To join us inside, you must provide contact tracing information as above. Additionally, you must provide proof of full vaccination or recovery, without exception. You cannot get in with a test (neither “Schnelltest” nor PCR-Test). Once you’re inside you don’t have to wear a mask anymore or keep minimum distance. Standing at the bar is also allowed again.

3: BE PATIENT AND FLEXIBLE- These rules are subject to change. We follow the directions of the Berlin Senate and when they provide new guidelines we will follow those. Always check the FB event or the website prior to coming to the concert to make sure you’re prepared for any government limitations that may have been imposed since last time you checked.
