Mi, 13. Oktober

Dora Osterloh (voc, comp)
Keisuke Matsuno (git)
Simon Jermyn (b)

Berlin-based singer Dora Osterloh’s musical expression combines the ease of improvisation with harmonic and melodic depth, emotional lyrics and rhythmic complexity. As an integral part of the Berlin jazz and improvisation scene, she can be heard in a wide variety of bands. As a composer she recently has worked for her vocal ensemble ENSEMBLE O and developed various solo concepts, such as the singer-songwriter project SONGS. The music that will be heard at Donau115 was composed by Dora Osterloh especially for this line-up with Keisuke Matsuno and Simon Jermyn.
Keisuke Matsuno creates sounds and noise on his guitar. He toured in different places on the globe, put out several records, and constantly works on new original music with artists in both Brooklyn and Berlin such as with his own Trio Schmetterling as well as with John Zorn, Jim Black, Chris Speed, and Thomas Morgan. As a native Berliner, he grew up in the divided, then reunified city before moving to New York City in 2010.
Simon Jermyn is a Berlin/NYC based guitarist and electric bassist. He leads his own bands and is a member of many others. He has worked with musicians John Zorn, Mat Maneri, Jim Black, Chris Speed, Ben Goldberg, Gerald Cleaver, Chris Lightcap and many others. He holds a PhD from Ulster University in Northern Ireland and has performed at venues and festivals throughout the US and Europe including The Village Vanguard.

Beatdenker invites for endless fun! #2

Elias Stemeseder – p, synth, fx
Beatdenker – git, fx, mpc, loops, something

Beatdenker plays live and improvises every time and everywhere anew. For his Postcontemporary Brain Beats, he always brings his MPC for drum and fun samples, his loop station and his guitar synthesizer for nice and ugly melodies, fluid chords and mean basslines.
For his Donau series he invites different wonderful musicians for different music. It can be beaty, noisy, sensitive, funny, weird, something… but it will always be fresh, encouraging, real, spirited, bubbly and full of energy. Yippie!

So, 17. Oktober
Hans Bilger/Paul Santner

Hans Bilger: bass, guitar, voice
Paul Santner: bass, guitar, voice, piano

Hans Bilger

Hans Bilger grew up in Brooklyn, NY. After an early diet of country and bluegrass music provided by his family band, the Charismatic Megafauna, he pursued formal training in jazz and classical music. His mentors include the bassists Greg Cohen (Tom Waits, Ornette Coleman, Laurie Anderson), Samuel Suggs, Paul Kowert (Punch Brothers), J.A. Granelli (Mr. Lucky), Axel Scherka (Staatskapelle Berlin), Kurt Muroki (Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center), and others. Bilger moved to Austin, TX in 2016, where he quickly became a sought-after sideman and session bassist. Recent projects include recordings with Eli Greenhoe (Airborne Charlie), Jenner Fox (Planet I’m From), R.O. Shapiro (King Electric Sessions), Micah Motenko (Motenko), and Daphne Gale (Nomadder). Since 2015, he has been composer in residence for the Brooklyn, NY-based Cora Dance.

Bilger is also fascinated by the natural world. After completing his B.S. in evolutionary biology at Yale University, he published studies on the songs and vocal organs of birds in Frontiers in Psychology and The Wilson Journal of Ornithology. In 2018, he joined the labs of Drs. Julia Clarke and Michael Ryan at UT Austin to start a PhD on the evolution of vocal production in frogs, birds and bats. Bilger currently lives in Berlin, Germany, where he splits his time between writing, performing, and evolutionary bioacoustics research at the Museum für Naturkunde.

“Hans Bilger is a renaissance man of the highest order. Crafting his art in the tradition of the best singer/songwriters from the golden years – but with a fresh spirit and clarity needed for our time.”- Greg Cohen

Paul Santner

Paul Santner was born in Salzburg, Austria in 1992. That’s where he started to sing and play the trumpet and the piano from a young age. As a teenager he picked up the double bass and the guitar. After having performed hundreds of concerts in classical orchestras and professional Jazz Bands as a teenager, he moved to Berlin in 2011 to study music with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Greg Cohen and others. Apart from his solo, duo and trio projects he plays with Jim Black, Sun Dew, 1000 gram, Bitter Blond, Rachel Sermanni and many more all over Europe.

„Lyric and expressive, Paul Santner stands out as one of Europe’s most important players today.“ – Greg Cohen

Plague Fun: Corona Rules

Case numbers are low, but the bug’s still around so we will be taking many measures to make sure we’re all doing our part to end the pandemic once and for all.

Since September 18th we implement the so called 2G-rule at Donau115. This means only people with full vaccination or recovered people can come inside (2G = geimpft/genesen = vaccinated/recovered).

1: OUTSIDE: contact tracing – To join us outside, you must provide contact tracing information. We will keep this information safe for the required amount of time and destroy it with fire once that time has ellapsed.

2: INSIDE: vaccinated or recovered (a test is not enough) – To join us inside, you must provide contact tracing information as above. Additionally, you must provide proof of full vaccination or recovery, without exception. You cannot get in with a test (neither “Schnelltest” nor PCR-Test). Once you’re inside you don’t have to wear a mask anymore or keep minimum distance. Standing at the bar is also allowed again.

3: BE PATIENT AND FLEXIBLE- These rules are subject to change. We follow the directions of the Berlin Senate and when they provide new guidelines we will follow those. Always check the FB event or the website prior to coming to the concert to make sure you’re prepared for any government limitations that may have been imposed since last time you checked.
