///// TWO-SONG TUESDAY /////
[sign up 19:00 // start 20:00]
Calling all songwriters!
Calling all composers and instrumentalists and synth wizards!
Calling all poets and writers and storytellers!
Do you have new solo or duo material to present? Join us for Donau115’s regular open stage series, Two-Song Tuesday.
Your set may include TWO SONGS or last TEN MINUTES, WHICHEVER IS SHORTER (e.g. two seven-minute songs = NO, three two-minute songs = NO).
“How do I get booked?”
– The bar staff tell you how to sign up, starting at 7pm.
– The first performer will begin at 20:00
– NO SOUNDCHECKS. Be ready. Slip on, blow minds, slip off. Setup is 90 seconds. Sets are no longer than 10 minutes. THERE IS A STOPWATCH TO ENSURE THIS. If your set goes beyond 10 minutes, the stopwatch goes off in the middle of your song. (The alarm sound is in the key of C#, FYI.)
– The host will call you to the stage in a random order. You may not reserve a specific time slot.
– We let as many people play as possible. There is usually time for 12 performers. Some weeks more, some weeks less.
“What can I play?”
– This is entirely up to you, but DO NOT PLAY THE SAME SONG OVER AND OVER EVERY WEEK. THIS IS BORING. TRY NEW THINGS.
– Out of respect for our neighbours:
— you may NOT use loud percussion and loud bass-heavy signals into the PA.
— you are welcome to use our backline, which includes a piano, two generic vocal microphones, a guitar cable directly into our PA, and a small amplifier.
— DON’T COUNT ON US HAVING ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE FEW THINGS LISTED ABOVE. COME PREPARED.

Practically Married #37: Borage w/Megan Jowett
Practically Married at Donau115 continues!
Megan Jowett – viola
James Banner – bass
Declan Forde – piano
Practically Married meets Megan Jowett
First meeting! improvised and original music with violist Megan Jowett (UK).
Borage is Megan Jowett and James Banner. They play brittle, strange, dark, weird and vibrant improvised music inspired by animals, plants and governments on strings and voices. Their debut album ‘transitory’ comes out on WismART records this winter.
Since 2015, Practically Married have collaborated with Vilde&Inga, Tobias Delius, John Hollenbeck, Max Andrzejewski, João Lopes Pereira, Eric Vaughn and many more, and have become a regular fixture on the Berlin jazz and improvised music scene.
They also perform as part of other acts including the award-winning Rachel Sermanni and James Banner’s USINE, and have performed sold out shows at Spiegesaal and Konzerthaus Berlin (with Fabiana Striffler and Mirna Bogdanovic) and Leeds Jazz Festival in 2018.
They have 4 releases with guests available on Bandcamp, and currently curate a bi-monthly improvised music series with guests at Berlin’s Donau115, named ‘one of the best jazz clubs in Europe’ by The Guardian. They will release their debut duo album in 2022, which was recorded direct to tape by Guy Sternberg, as well as a second album, Live at Cafe Dias with João Lopes Pereira.

Gawlik/Wankel/Stefansson + Percy Pursglove
This trio comprised of berlin musicians Julius Gawlik, Thorbjørn Stefansson and Marius Wankel presents a fresh set of original music.
Searching for new places and spaces within their own compositions and free improvisation while always being grounded, encouraged and challenged by their unique musical connection, built and strengthened in many concerts and many many more hours of playing together.
For this evening the trio will be joined by the fabulous trumpeter Percy Pursglove (Evan Parker, Norma Winstone, Bill frisell), whose unique approach and creativity will turn this band into a quartet loaded with energy, ideas and love for music.
Fr, 02. September
Camilla Battaglia Càlór
Camilla Battaglia, vocals
Julius Windisch, piano/synth
Nick Dunston, upright bass
A quartet with voice and piano trio to experiment balances and morphological axes in the dialogue between instruments: unexpected, fragile, but meant to give space to the multiformity of the contents of the lyrics through the melodic and harmonic textures.
Four instruments and four voices for a series of compositions that tell of how body and mind communicate, fight, merge or hide from each other, barricading themselves behind weak walls of defense or mutual attack.
A project which to me defines a research laboratory for sound and dialogue in the musical form, thanks to the background of each of its members.
Dream Parade DJ Set
On the occasion of the release of a new single, fckpshow, and in the run-up to their impending sophomore LP, Maddie from Berlin / Vevey “sweet crispy creamy indie pop” band Dream Parade will pay Donau115 a visit for a DJ set. 23:15 – end; no cover.
Sa, 03. September
İlter Ünal – Vocals / Ney
Fabian Meyer – Piano / Synthesizer
Sebastian Schuster – Bass
Thomas Wörle – Drums
englisht text below
Lunaves flows between melancholy and energy, moon and earth. Without fear of contact with diverse genres such as jazz, pop, alternative rock, Turkish folklore and electronic music, the band creates its own unique sound. The lyrics are written in English and Turkish. Lunaves’ debut album Sakin was released in February 2020.
